The Local Honey Scene
Eating local honey has many health benefits, but it must be unpasteurized to truly benefit. We currently are working with three local beekeepers to have honey in the store.
Berg En Dal
Located in Wakefield, Quebec, Leaf and Co. have some of the best honey around. Labelled as Spring, Summer, or Fall, the honeys are separated as to what the bees were pollinating for that batch. Berg En Dal is also the honey we use in the store for our bacon brines.
We carry from Berg En Dal:
330 gram jars
500 gram jars
1 Kilo jars
Brent Halsall
Brent Halsall is a beekeeper located in Ontario, and he makes absolutely the best old fashioned churned honey around. The Piggy Market carries Old Fashioned Churned in 500 gram jars, and 1 kilo jars.
Ottawa Valley Honey
Mike Kositsin, just this past year, started blending his honey with Dutch Cocoa, for one of the most decadent sweeteners or dessert toppings around. These squeeze bottle bears are always available in the store, as long as Mike keeps blending.
All three beekeepers can be found at the Ottawa Farmers market, and are all registered with beekeepers associations. To find out more about the benefits of local honeys, visit www.honeycouncil.ca.
